CalorieSnap — Privacy Policy

CalorieSnap (“the app”, “we”) helps you photograph meals and track calories and macronutrients. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using CalorieSnap you agree to this policy.

What we collect

• Account information — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile photo, and a Google account identifier.
• Profile you enter — height, weight, target weight, age, sex, and activity level, used to calculate your personalized calorie and macronutrient targets.
• Meals — photos you take or choose, and the nutrition information derived from them (dish name, calories, protein, fat, carbs, and related details), with timestamps.
• Health & fitness (optional, only if you connect) — with your explicit permission, body weight, height, and active calories burned from Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS). See the dedicated section below.
• Basic diagnostics — limited technical/usage information needed to operate and secure the service (e.g. error logs).

Health & fitness data (optional)

Connecting Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iOS) is entirely optional and off by default. If you choose to connect, CalorieSnap reads — only with the permission you grant on your device — your most recent body weight and height, and your active calories burned. This data is used solely inside the app to (a) pre-fill your height and weight, and (b) optionally adjust your daily calorie target to your measured activity. We read this data only — we never write to Health Connect or Apple Health. A short summary (your average daily active calories over the last 7 days) and any weight/height you accept are saved to your own account in Google Firebase. We do not share your health and fitness data with our AI provider, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it. You can revoke access at any time in your device's Health Connect or Apple Health settings; disconnecting stops any further reads.

How we use it

• To provide the core features: meal photo analysis, personalized daily targets, meal history, and the weekly meal planner.
• To analyze a meal photo, the image is sent to our processing server and to our AI provider (Anthropic, “Claude”) solely to return nutrition information for that photo.
• To keep the service working, secure, and to fix problems.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored using Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, and Hosting) on Google Cloud infrastructure. Meal photos are processed by Anthropic to generate nutrition estimates. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms.

Data retention & your choices

• You can delete individual meals at any time inside the app.
• You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing us (below); we will delete it within a reasonable period.
• You can sign out at any time from the app.

Children

CalorieSnap is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Security

We use industry-standard measures provided by Google Firebase (including authenticated, owner-scoped access to your records). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
